Use Passion To Sell Your Legal Services

Steve Irwin

I want to talk about Steve Irwin, the inspirational crocodile hunter and an amazing conservationist who was tragically killed by a sting ray. Of course there is no direct link between Steve and the legal profession, but he possessed a skill which is essential for all businesses if they really want to thrive:- PASSION.

Anyone who has ever seen him on television will have seen his enthusiasm and passion for his work. He loved the animals he worked with and inspired those around him to love their work too. He turned a small reptile and fauna park into The Australian Zoo, but how? Steve Irwin clearly was the man at the top, but he made sure he surrounded himself with people who were also passionate about what they did too so that when he was not there people who visited the Zoo still had a fantastic trip. So how can you turn a negative into a positive? How can you emulate Steve Irwin to make your legal practice more successful?

1. Show Your Passion

I meet a lot of solicitors every month, and almost without fail they enjoy their work. Often they are not so keen often on the management, the sales and marketing and the other parts of their job they feel they did not enter the law for, but they do enjoy their work. Unfortunately this fact is often hidden from all of those around them. Let your clients know that you really do want to provide them with an excellent service and watch your clients sell your services for you to their friends and family.

2. Inspire Your Team

Let your team see how much doing a great job means to you. Be the Steve Irwin at the top of your practice and let those below learn from you and be inspired by you. I have met so many inspirational partners but often they spend so much time away from the office that they are not there to inspire their own team. This is vital if your small practice is to turn into "The Australian Zoo".

3. Inspire Other Practice's Teams

Spend time motivating other lawyers at networking events and by offering your services for training purposes. Although this can seem like "wasted time" it rarely will be. A motivational speaker tends to receive a lot more CV's requesting offers of employment and with recruitment fees often being the bane of many solicitors' lives this can save considerable expense. I was sad to read about Steve Irwin's loss, but I am sure he would be delighted to see a positive situation come from his death. Go inspire!
