What Gold Medal Winning Swimmers Can Teach You About Growing Your Law Firm

What Gold Medal Winning Swimmers Can Teach You About Growing Your Law Firm

I was listening to the incredible multi Gold medal swimming swimmer Adam Peaty the other day, and he summed up something which I think is worth mentioning to you.

To be the best swimmer and win all of the medals that he has won, he said he didn’t need to be the best necessarily, he just had to do a little bit more than his closest rivals, then he knew he would win.

Johnny Wilkinson, the England rugby world cup winner used to say the same. He would practice his kicking for goal on Christmas day, because he knew his rivals would take the day off.

Now there is some really good news for you in here – great news in fact.

Most solicitors do no or very little marketing, and what they do they often do very badly.

Therefore, to use the sporting references above, this means that, when it comes to your marketing, you only have to do better than your competitors.

You don’t have to do every single marketing tactic and do it to perfection, in fact one of my favourite sayings “Perfection kills momentum” advocates that you should never try and be perfect when it comes to your marketing. Save perfection for your contract drafting or negotiations; for your marketing just get it going and then improve it. Don’t strangle your success by waiting for your marketing to be perfect, just get it going.

I know that a lot of solicitors find marketing difficult to understand. They receive contradictory advice from colleagues, friends and ‘non-legal’ marketing specialists. Often, by the time they talk with me, they have wasted a fortune on a ridiculous marketing campaigns that will never produce clients for them.

This frustrated me so much that I decided to make it easy for solicitors to know what to do, so I penned The Law Firm Growth Formula book. It took months, but it is one of the things that I am most proud of because I am getting regular feedback from solicitors that it has opened their eyes to what marketing really is and completely removed the fear of the topic.

Mission accomplished!

When it comes to growing YOUR law firm, If you are not sure what you should be doing or how you should be doing it then you really should read the book if you have not done so already.

Paperback or Kindle are both available here: //www.amazon.co.uk/Law-Firm-Growth-Formula-solicitors/dp/1781332657/

Guess what? The book is one year old today. I can't quite believe that. So if you haven't yet bought it, one year and 15 five star reviews later (plus one rather odd three star review – read it on Amazon to see what I mean) – you better get it now.

Optimisation

Optimise your marketing. There are more clients waiting for you. Tweak, hone, improve every aspect of it and there are more clients waiting there for you.

If you need to know and understand precisely how to optimise your marketing, guess what? The book includes and entire chapter on optimisation of law firm marketing.

No excuses. I have laid out exactly what you need to do.

Right! Now that I have penned this article I am off to do my Adam Peaty impression (I mean that in a 'go for a swim' kind of way as opposed to a 'Mike Yarwood impression' kind of way).
