What Is Stopping Your Law Firm Success?

How To Ensure Your Law Firms Success

If your firm is not exactly where you want it to be right now, I have a question for you:

What is stopping you?

I can only guess from here, but I know that it isn’t or it shouldn’t be one thing; that is, it shouldn’t be that you don’t know what to do.

So if it can’t be that you don’t know what it is that you should be doing then what else is stopping you?

I have been pondering about this recently as it always surprises me when someone says that they are not where they want to be with their firm but they aren’t taking action to change it.

You see, I take what I do seriously, and it really frustrates me when I see people that I care about not achieving their full potential. Seriously.

I know you can have the law firm of your dreams as I work with solicitors achieving this all of the time, and you must see others doing it too and notice that they are achieving what they want, so why not you too?

So I ponder. I lie awake. I sometimes throw my Google beach ball at the wall or the window if I really hit a fit of pique.

So here are some of the reasons that I hear or have made up in trying to correct this issue to hopefully help you around any road block that you might have at the moment.

You don’t know how to grow your law firm.

Easy this one; ask me, as outlined above. Book your More Clients Now call with me and I will tell you exactly what you need to do.

You don’t have time to grow your law firm.

It can’t be this one, can it? You can only use this argument if you never check your emails before 4pm every day, you delegate everything and anything which isn’t going to grow or quickly develop your practice to someone else and you never watch television; ever.

You can’t also use this one if you regularly check social media, allow your staff to wonder in and out of your office whenever they feel like it and you don’t allow yourself any focused ‘growing the business time’ – the first 30 minutes of each and every day is a good place to start.

So it can’t be this one either, can it?

You don’t believe that you can do it.

This one is OK too. I promise that you can do it. If you are at level D and you want to get to level C, you can do it. I can show you how to press the lift button to make this happen.

Unless you are at £500,000 turnover and you want to hit £10 million within three months with no more staff, you can probably achieve whatever your current goal is, which leads me onto the next one.

You don’t know where you want to be/ you don’t set goals.

Successful business owners set goals. You must have goals. Once you have goals, you can measure your performance against these goals. You can see how far short you are going to come up against these goals by the end of any given 12 month period (quarterly goals can be even more useful) and then you can see how many new files you will need to open to reach them.

From thereon in, it is easy. You just need to do some more marketing. The choice of marketing should be easy too. You first do more of what you are already doing that is working (optimising each aspect of the process at the same time) and then if that is not enough, you add a new marketing method (ask me which).

You don’t have the money.

There are many, many, many ways to generate more client instructions without spending money. You start by optimising your client conversion process (there is a full system to follow in Marketing4Solicitors Blueprint 2, which I believe is one of the most powerful things that I have written) and then you make sure that you are using all of the arteries in the New Client Flowcast (below), some of which you will notice again will not cost you much. Which one? Well, I am guessing you have worked this out now; you ask me.

You don’t have the energy?

I understand this one. I appreciate that as the business owner or head of department you have to do a lot of things. You have to spin many plates to keep everything going and sometimes this just gets hard.

I sometimes feel this too in my business.

When I do, I know it is time for me to get some more help. I need someone to guide me in the right direction – either gently or forcefully depending on my place at that time – so I go off and find them.

So, once again, for you this is easy. You speak with me. If I can’t re-invigorate you on a one to one call, I will explain how else I can help you on a more one to one basis.

I employ external help because I always practise what I preach, but more importantly, I do it because it works.

So if you are not yet where you want to be, it is time to step up and take some action.

Rule 3 of my Golden Rules Of Marketing4Solicitors says this:

It is all your fault.

Wherever you are right now with your practice, it is down to you and no one else.

If this statement annoys you, stop and think for a moment.

If I am right in this statement (and I am by the way) what does this mean?

It means freedom, that’s what; in that if it really is all your fault that you are in a position that you do not want to be in, it is entirely within your power to get yourself out of it too.

You just have to start by asking for help.

When you put your hand up and do this, I will be there for you.

It is what I do.

And when I show you what to do, what will that mean to you?

Please, take a moment now to picture your firm exactly where you want it to be in three or six months’ time. What will it feel like to have the turnover and profits where you want them to be or well on their way to getting there?

What will it enable you to do if your profits and drawings are up, both whilst at work and at home and at play?

Are there holidays that you haven’t yet taken that you will be able to take?

Are there clothes, gadgets or whatever else floats your boat (boats float mine funnily enough) that you want but do not yet have, or is it just that you would like more time to garden, read or relax?

How will that feel for you when you achieve this?

I know some people find it hard to visualise what it will be like when they have the law firm of their dreams, but it is a smart thing to do, as if you can see it, smell it and touch it, your sub conscious can help you a lot more than you would care to believe.
