Are You Looking For A New Dream Legal Job? Are You A Solicitor, Legal Executive (Or Trainee), Paralegal Or Seeking Your First Position In The Law?
First, let me start by explaining my background. I am Nick Jervis. I now run my full time law firm marketing consultancy, but this was my career before doing this:
- Trainee legal executive;
- Legal Executive
- Solicitor
You should also know, as it is relevant to this article, that I was offered a job for every interview that I attended in my 14 years in the law.
Landing My First Job As A Trainee Legal Executive
I had absolutely no experience in the legal world when I decided, aged 21 and having spent some time travelling and enjoying life, to enter the law.
I scoured the legal papers but did not see one job advertised for a trainee legal executive, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I decided that if I was going to land my dream legal job I would have to take control of the matter.
I researched firms that I liked the look of, created a list of 65, then I hand wrote 65 personalised letters to each of them. This led to one job interview and one job offer (more followed later but I accepted the first one).
65 letters, one job and now as I am still effectively working in the legal industry, the blood, sweat and tears for that early research and letter writing have paid me back handsomely.
The good news for you is that you do not have to work quite this hard, or hard at all really for that matter.
With LinkedIn and law firm websites, it should be a breeze for you to identify firms that you would like to work for and to create tailored approach that is almost certain to lead to a job offer.
