Why I Like Coaching Solicitors To Grow Their Law Firms

A recently family holiday reminded me why I like coaching solicitors to grow their law firms. In this article I explain why my fear of heights reminded me why I do what I do.

I have never been a fan of heights. My family know this. Recently on a family trip to Center Parcs I decided that I should show my children than you can do things that you are scared of and survive, so I agreed to do the high wires challenge with them.

This involves donning a harness and working your way around a course of obstacles in the sky. You start at ground level and after covering about 10-15 obstacles you are 100 or so feet high. The final challenge is to hurl yourself off a platform and zipwire across the lake into a large landing net. It was the part I was looking forward to the most as I knew that once I had stepped off the platform my personal challenge would soon be over (one way or another).

However, something happened on the aerial course which really lifted me and made the entire process so very worthwhile.

My son Samuel (16) was at the front of the three of us, my daughter Megan (19) was next then I was very much bringing up the rear.

At each obstacle my daughter would reach the next tree which had a small platform around its  circumference, then rather than move onto the next obstacle she would turn around and start to coach me across. She would tell me how she had found it easiest to traverse the eight logs, or how she had managed to throw herself off a platform, zip wire across the 20 foot or so gap and then cling onto the cargo net on the other side. Why I Like Coaching Solicitors To Grow Their Law Firms

Once I had overcome my initial fear of undertaking this course and came out of my trance, I realised what was happening. Her actions were melting my heart and filling me with pride at the same time. I realised that we must have done something right as parents at that point.

What a star.

Now I know that I am only a very small part of the parental make up and that her mum gets the chief chunk of the credit, but Megan has worked with me a few times and seen me ‘coaching’ my clients on how to grow their law firm, so I am taking a small part of this too.

Megan ‘coached me’ because she wanted to help me. It is the same reason that I coach my clients. Nothing makes me happier than helping someone to reach their full potential. I hate to see wasted potential as my belief is very much that this is pretty much it, so we each owe it to ourselves to make the very most of what we have and what we give to our business.

I know that you will feel the same about your legal services. You will have no better a feeling than when you do a great job for a client and they sing your praises.

Now of course we all charge for our services (remember from my recent article that there is no value in free) but if it was just about the money I can think of dozens of other ways I could replace my income and I am sure that you can too. Helping my clients to help more of their clients is a part of who I am and it seems that is also in my daughter’s make up. I am very happy with that.

Chris Rennie

Nick takes a no-nonsense approach, cuts the fluff and gets straight to the point – which is an approach that you see very little nowadays in the world of marketing where you have many gurus with complex approach that most probably never work. I look forward to working with Nick.

Claire Johnson

Nick is a fountain of knowledge, tried and tested personally. He has that rare gift of not making you feel daft for asking any question. After our consultation I felt far less like a rabbit in the headlights and far more empowered to climb the marketing mountain successfully.

Michael Birch

Less than a year ago I asked Nick to help me grow our practice by making the telephone ring.

He’s certainly done that and much more.

The improvements are incredible and Nick has guided me through the many challenges of scaling up, not least the need for a client focused approach.

This has allowed me to start the next phase; organising the practice to ensure a better lifestyle balance for all of us, whilst we continue to grow.

Anthony McCarthy

Nick gives simple and clear advice which makes sense.

In a field full of smoke and mirror merchants he is the real deal.

His book, content and webinars are first class.

Highly recommended.

Tim Weir

Having implemented a raft of improvements to our website and marketing campaigns suggested in Nick’s excellent books, I decided to contact the man himself for a one-to-one discussion.

The thirty minutes spent with Nick on that video call provided me with more business improvement tools than I could’ve hoped for. Nick even took the time to give me some insights on client conversion particular to our area of practice.

Online reviews are often brimming with trite phrases and hyperbole, but I cannot find any other way of saying that my only regret is that I didn’t contact Samson Consulting sooner.
