Where are you now with your practice? Is it hugely successful and producing the income level that you want and crave, or could it do with a little extra help?

I have worked with hundreds of solicitors over the years, and I have met solicitors operating at each end of the spectrum, from the strugglers to the hugely successful ones at the other end of the scale.

My workings have led me to create a new visual representation of how to go from struggling to hugely successful, so I thought it might be useful if I shared that with you, so here we go! One word of warning I should add, I am not a professional artist, and the sketches were drawn on my iPad, so please bear that in mind.

Level 1 Of The Solicitors Marketing Growth Plan – Struggling

Solicitors Ascension Marketing Model Level 1

At this level life is not very pleasant. The solicitor is getting by, but could earn more in a different occupation without the professional qualifications he or she has so heavily invested in. No one wants to be at this level. Why does this happen? Well, I will cover that later in this feature, but please see each level rather than jump to the end (I knew what you were thinking)….

Level 2 Of The Solicitors Marketing Growth Plan – Stability

At this level you can start to breathe a little easier. The bills are now relatively easily paid and you can start to enjoy life a little more, although there is not a lot left over at the end of each month.

At level three, life really is much more fun (as it should be). You now have spare income as well as covering the basics!

At this level, you really can enjoy yourself a lot more. If you are a sole practitioner, you might now have a fee earner doing more of the fee earning than you are, or you simply have as much of the right quality of work coming in as you want or need.

If you have several fee earners you are now definitely able to stop fee earning (if you choose), instead concentrating on growing your practice further still.

Can you jump one or two levels?

So how do you go through these levels, and how can you jump one, two or even three of them?

Well, it all depends on your numbers in red at the sides. Have you already worked out what these are? These are the number of automated marketing methods that you have put in place that regularly produce new client instructions for you.

If you are at the struggle position, you need to put in place another method (or more likely the first proper automated legal marketing method) to generate new instructions, and you need to ensure that it works with or without your input. This is vital because you have to do the fee earning too, and you cannot do both the marketing and the fee earning full time when you are busy, so one of them will suffer and in my experience that is always the marketing.

You can only go up through these levels by adding new, automated marketing tactics that will produce new instructions for you one at a time, or can you?

Well because I have prepared this model based on my experiences of working with solicitors for many years now, there is one way to jump a level or two using the automated marketing method; that is to have a website which produces a high volume of leads for you.

This can move you quickly from struggling to success or even to Cream, and I have seen it do this for many different firms of solicitors, from sole practitioners working alone to firms with 10 or more staff.
